Peggy Seeger Teaches Guitar Accompaniment
Peggy Seeger Teaches Guitar Accompaniment for Folk Songs, Ballads and Originals
From a Singers' Club fan from way way back:
Just watched the Homespun DVD "PEGGY SEEGER teaches guitar accompaniment for Folk Songs, Ballads and Originals" all the way through. Merely watching the DVD and having the benefit of the explanations - I found fascinating.
Beautifully produced and such a good project for you to take on. Magic. And I enjoyed your interviewer's descriptions and understanding of what you were doing with the guitar.
I found just watching delightful and very moving. Took me back to when I used to try to watch how you were playing your instruments from the front row of the Singers' Club, though I never came near to understanding how you produced those accompaniments which rang through my head during long trips back to Brighton.
I don't know if you have ever had any unproductive years, but 2012 seems to have been an especially good one for different projects. The Guitar Accompaniment DVD is an absolute gem and there was no way I could resist telling you so. I just hope that the resource is widely discovered. Its power is that it offers both 'the components' and 'the whole' (beautiful songs) as well as a compelling narrative between interviewer and interviewee. It is rare to have an interviewer with such good knowledge of an artist's craft as well as the biographical details of her life. Haven't had my attention held for Two Hours (no dips at all!) for a long time, which is also down to quality of editing and production. Just couldn't fault it. Make sure it sells!
I am so glad you did this project. I have a theory that special skills become so well incorporated into lifetime occupations that artists take them for granted. Wish this resource had been available decades ago, though the project may in some ways have come at the right time - what is possible now technically with computers and DVD (split video picture etc) delivers a really clear presentation in terms of the tutoring function.
