Peggy Quotes

Her multi instrumentalism (guitar, autoharp, banjo, keyboards, concertina), her unashamed fealty to the politics of folk music (where gender wars, labour laws, ecology and Napoleon jostle for space), and her magnificent voice conspired to still a surprisingly small crowd who hung on her every note and syllable. - Siobhan Long, Irish Times

Peggy Quotes 2

First off, Seeger's a daunting multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, autoharp, banjo, piano, concertina, and of course singing. However, she doesn't just play, she demonstrates a fluency surprising even for an overachiever on the banjo, and her vocals can be either bird-on-a-wire delicate or gusty, ringing with authority and surprising projection.

I'm teaching a semester of songwriting again at Northeastern University. We sit there sizing each other up on September 11, me and 12 unsuspecting chicks. I tell them: 'no guitars, you sing unaccompanied' and 'you don't write your own tunes. only the words.' Miracle of miracles, they stayed, for a total of 24 classes. Well, I had a wonderful time, as usual. I always learn so much when I teach and the system that I had for songwriting with them produced some stunning songs. Only three of them were music students ... the others were taking Music Industry, Photography and various commercial courses. One of them could barely sing but by the end of the course he SANG and the rest of the class loved it and supported him.
